Why do you believe the bible? or not?

when i began questioning the religion i used the bible and their own statements to prove them wrong.

now, recently, i have began to realise that maybe the only reason i put any faith in the bible is because i was always raised to.. so my question is, after leaving the watchtower, what was it that made you decide the bible was worthy of belief?.

i am not asking about any continuing belief in god or disbelief, i am more conscerned about the first step (to me) right now of the bible itself.

Everything else about the bible not being the divine flawless word of God we can all agree is true, the bible has a lot of problems, I think even Paul was a false prophet.

To be fair, there is proof of an historical Jesus but does not say much about him or anything special about him, there was thousands of old texts from the NT in circulation in those days a lot more than any other books, early orthodoxy decided what went in the bible and they had to be in harmony with the four gospels (you can see why barnabas and thomas was never included, rev and hebrews shouldnt be in the Nt), all apostles put their life on the line this shows their believe in faith. When Jesus passed to heaven, other documents mentioned darkening of the that day in other countries which is in harmony with what the bible says (astronomy can not prove that this was an eclipse), the oldest book (page of the book) found which dates 70AEC was JOHN.

i have noticed that people that hold no faith in the bible can easily find reasons not to believe it is god's word.

likewise, i have found that when one does hold faith in the bible they can continue to believe it against any contrary evidence.

the torah not being written by moses is not a big deal to some, neither are the two creation accounts in genises.

Biblical? Even 587BCE is from secular dating, JW's use the secular date 539BCE as point of reference which with their understanding on daniel and jeremiah gives then 607BCE the destruction of Jerusalem, there are various ways to disprove this by either secular or biblical data, a good book about this is Gentile Times Reconsidered.

To me a religion is a belief of a higher being/s

Atheism is a disbelief of a higher being/s

Agnostic knowledges that he does not have all the answers.

They are not the absolute definition, it has more to do if you believe or don't in God or your not too sure, and there are hybrids of two or all three has you pointed out some, others could be put into one of 3 categories.

Aussies, where are you and have you been affected by the floods?

large areas of queensland have suffered devastating floods in the last few days.

parts of new south wales, victoria, tasmania and south australia have also been affected.. i'm in adelaide, there is blue sky and life goes on as normal.

but it's heartbreaking to see what's happening in the east of the country.. aussies, please check in and let us know how you are going.. penny.

Parents took a 3 week vacation to Queensland, they left Brisbane on the 10th, lucky them.

Dead Birds And Fish

does anyone have any idea why birds are literally dropping dead from the sky in four or five states.

and even in sweden,hundreds of birds are dead.

and fish are turning up dead too,not only in the states,but also brazil and new zealand.. they're trying to say new year's eve fireworks frightened the birds to death.

Understanding Christ's Sacrifice

i haven't always understood how christ could have carried our sins for us, and had them forgiven.

i've sort of understood because that's what people say he did, but the ransom (in a legalistic adam/jesus way) never held weight for me.

but something recently happened that allowed me to understand.

I have some many problems with Jesus death.

According to the OT and two books that never made it to the OT, the messiah was not going to be anything like Jesus

Two completely different accounts on how Jesus got to is destination to be born.

The reason why Jesus got himself in trouble does not make any sense, eventually Pilate on two different accounts gave Jesus to the Jews for decision making, to the crux.

And there are others, why do people knowing there are grave concerns about the bible continue to turn a blind eye to these undeniable facts.

Regarding is death, is yoke is easy on us, its easy on our conscience, his yoke show's the person he his, nothing compared to the God of the OT, he wanted to pay for our sins, to set us free, thats how it works because everything has its price, this isn't something Jehovah planned and I can prove it in scripture.

Is the Bible Authentic?

my wife is searching for facts that will prove to her why the bible is or is not the authentic word of god.

she knows the direction i am leaning and i have shown her a few examples of why i feel as i do.

however, it is always good to hear the opinions of others.this is where you come in.... how would you answer the following questions:.

What about my experiences that no one wants to talk about, I agree with everyone here especially leavingwt, but what about all the weird stuff that happened in my youth, not just me but other people also saw with me things that science can not explain? Im not saying that this proof that the bible is true but there is something else than suffering from psychosis we do not know because we can not see it. Just because the bible has been debunked does not mean you can call yourself an atheist after all they are only limited to what they know(and lot of it is pseudoscience), the same with religion.
